Item-Level Results in CERS

Item-level results from the Smarter Balanced, California Science Test (CAST), and English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) Interim Assessments provide educators with detailed insights into student performance on individual test items. Across all three interim assessment programs, item-level results include access to actual test items and student responses (with limited exceptions), along with scoring and alignment information such as aligned standards, item difficulty, maximum score, and student score. Together, these common data elements support informed instructional decisions and targeted learning opportunities. Some assessments also include program-specific item-level data elements; refer to table 1.

Together, item-level results across these assessments enable educators to identify trends and patterns within and across individual and group responses. This analysis supports instructional planning, informs differentiation, and promotes more effective teaching and learning practices across subjects and language domains.
